WEBTOON launches Call to Action contest for best action comic with $50,000 grand prize
WEBTOON is giving comic creators worldwide the chance to show off their coolest action moments with the Call to Action Contest.
Announced last week (March 29), this contest wants creators to show off those epic fight scenes in your head with $50,000 up for grabs for the top prize.
The grand prize winner will also score an animated short, while the top three will get offers to be WEBTOON ORIGINALS.
In case you're not familiar with Webtoons, these are a type of digital comic that originated in South Korea, usually meant to be read on computers and smartphones. The platform partners with creators to publish original content under the WEBTOON ORIGINALS banner.
WEBTOON now houses the world's largest digital comics platofrm that's home to some of the biggest artists, IP and fandoms in comics.
Various movies, K-dramas, animated series and video games have been produced based on Webtoons released on Naver Corporation's service, including recent hits like Hellbound and All of Us Are Dead.

Additionally, the top 10 submissions will get a license for Clip Studio Paint EX and between $5,000 to $50,000 depending on their placing.
Submissions will be open from Jun. 1 to Jul. 31, 2022, with specific criteria.
Submissions must be in English and full color. Comic creators will get one episode with at least 60 panels to tell the story.
The episode must contain “a blood-pumping brawl between at least two characters.”
There are some additional guidelines to keep in mind like file specifications which can be found in the official rules and FAQ.
Starting Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, the comics will be judged based on audience engagement and judge-assigned scores. The winners will be announced on Sept. 30.
"For many comic fans, superpowers and battling evil are the foundational formula for an exciting story," WEBTOON US vice president of content David Lee said. "WEBTOON creators have brought incredible new energy, creativity and diversity to action comics, giving fans a new generation of heroes to cheer for. Great ideas and content can come from anywhere, and we can't wait to see what thrilling adventures WEBTOON creators submit for the 2022 Call to Action Contest."
Based on the guidelines, it looks like the contest is open to Philippine comic creators, and not just those based in the US.
According to the contest FAQ and official rules, anyone can participate regardless of their country of residence as long as countries are not listed as an excluded territory in the official rules and has no restrictions against entry.
“The Contest is otherwise void where prohibited or restricted by applicable law, including any territories where promotion licensing and registration is required and any territories sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury, including Crimea, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Somalia and Venezuela,” according to the contest organizers.
