The local adaptation of the much-loved Korean film is set to hit the theaters on Jan. 31, with Toni Gonzaga and Pepe Herrera as its lead stars.
The TV host and actress announced the news in an Instagram post on Thursday, Jan. 11, calling the project "a dream come true."
Directed by Fifth Solomon, the PH version will also star Alma Moreno, Benj Manalo, Boboy Garrovillo, Bodji Pascua, and Yayo Aguila, among others.
The trailer is yet to be released.
It was in January 2021 when Toni revealed her role in the upcoming film. At the time, the local star referred to the Korean offering as one she will never forget.
"Hindi ko makakalimutan 'yun. Sabi ni Direk Cathy [Garcia-Sampana], 'Panoorin mo 'yung Sassy Girl. Iyan ang peg namin sa 'yo. Dapat ganiyan ka, may pagka-feisty,'" Toni recalled.
"Twenty years after the film was released, I'm given the opportunity to play the role here in the Philippines. I consider it as a big blessing," she said.
Released in 2001, My Sassy Girl is a South Korean romantic comedy film starring Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun. It became one of the country's highest-grossing films of all time. It also has an American version, which was released seven years later.
