Margot Robbie to produce a movie on popular board game 'Monopoly'
Margot Robbie is putting her producer hat on once again as she's set to work on a movie about the popular board game Monopoly.
Lionsgate, along with the actress' production company LuckyChap, announced the upcoming film at Cinemacon in Las Vegas. Hasbro Entertainment, the board game's publisher, will also be onboard as producers.
Details about the story for the upcoming flick have yet to be revealed but Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson hinted that Margot's LuckyChap already has a "clear point of view."
Monopoly dates back to 1935, with its roots traced back to 1903 with Lizzie Magie's The Landlord's Game. Many iterations of the board game have since been launched in different countries and languages, with the game selling over 275 million copies worldwide as of 2015.
The board game sees players rolling dice to go around the board and land on properties they can buy or trade. They then collect rent from other players that land on their space, go to jail, or earn more money when they pass "Go." The aim of the game is to bankrupt your opponents.
"Monopoly is a top property—pun intended," LuckyChap said. "Like all of the best [intellectual properties], this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro."
This isn't Margot's first time as a producer as she's previously held that position for films such as I, Tonya, Dreamland, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman, The Humming of the Beast, Saltburn, and Barbie.
The Barbie actress has also been announced to be working on a live-action The Sims movie.
