'Home Alone in Concert' debuts in Manila this Christmas
A Christmas classic is coming to Manila in December. Are you ready for the '90s nostalgia?
Home Alone in Concert will have a two-night run on Dec. 19 and 20 at The Theatre at Solaire to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1990 hit film starring Macauley Culkin and the late Catherine O'Hara.
Home Alone in Concert will be performed live by the 85-member Filharmonika Orchestra, conducted by Gerard Salonga, alongside all 48 members of the Philippine Madrigal Singers. They will all be working with the Academy Award-nominated score of award-winning composer John Williams.
The Christmas movie tells the story of the large McAllister family. The night before their flight to Paris, where they're planning to spend Christmas, their youngest son Kevin, played by Culkin, is banished to the attic as punishment for ruining dinner. Everyone oversleeps the next morning, and they barely make their flight, except they've forgotten Kevin in the attic.
After his initial shock at being left alone, Kevin savors his independence. His bravery is tested, however, when two burglars attempt to rob his home. To drive them away, Kevin sets up elaborate booby traps throughout the house, ultimately enabling police to arrest the burglars.
His family, who made their circuitous way home to be with him, finally arrives home, and they all celebrate Christmas together.
The concert includes some of the film's most cherished musical moments, such as Somewhere in My Memory, Star of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, and Carol of the Bells.
Each piece will be performed while clips from the film are played on the big screen onstage.
Williams' score received two Academy Award nominations: Best Original Score and Best Original Song for "Somewhere in My Memory". It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
Brought to Manila by Film Concerts PH, Home Alone in Concert premiered in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2013. It has since grown to become a seasonal favorite around the world.
