WATCH: New Sang'gres showcase powers in 'Encantadia' spin-off's teaser trailer
The new Sang'gres are here and they're ready to show what they're capable of.
GMA Network delighted fans with the release of the teaser trailer for the upcoming Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre, a spin-off to the 2016 fantasy drama series Encantadia.
The short clip offers a closer look at the new generation Sang'gres, or mythical beings of royal lineage, as they showcase their powers that control the four elements: earth, fire, air, and water.
Bianca Umali will star in the role of Terra, the daughter of Danaya (previously played by Sanya Lopez), who has been tasked with safekeeping the Brilyante ng Lupa. This grants her earth-based powers, as seen when she generates powerful earthquakes.
Faith da Silva will meanwhile play Flamarra, the new keeper of the Brilyante ng Apoy who has the power to shoot and control fire, while Angel Guardian will portray Deia, the guardian of the Brilyante ng Hangin who has the power of wind at her side.
For the first time, a male Sang'gre going by the name Adamus will appear in the series. He will be played by Kelvin Miranda and will have the power to manipulate water, granted to him the Brilyante ng Tubig.
The spin-off was announced on Dec. 31, 2021. Bianca was the first one to be revealed after director Mark Reyes unveiled the series' concept art at the San Diego Comic-Con in July.
Detailing her preparations for the character, Bianca said in an interview that it's like she's preparing for a Marvel movie.
"I am preparing my physique for it, I'm preparing my skills for it, and I have been studying everything about Encantadia," the actress said, highlighting that this is the "biggest pressure" she felt in her entire career.
"Kaya nung nalaman ko rin na Brilyante ng lupa yung mapupunta sakin, I think its in the stars I would like to believe in," she added.
Meanwhile, Angel revealed in an Instagram post in October that her character's name is based on the daughter of Iza Calzado, who starred as Amihan in the original 2005 Encantadia series.
"I found out [the producers] asked for her permission to use her daughter’s name, Deia. We got emotional, I saw how special Deia is to Ms. Iza. It made me realise how lucky I am to be carrying such a deeply special name," Angel recounted.
She continued, "I don’t ever want to start saying I’m Sang’gre Deia without acknowledging the real reason why the name Deia exists. To Ms. Iza, thank you so much for this very beautiful name and thank you sa pagpayag na gamitin ang pangalan ng pinaka espesyal na tao sa buhay mo—your beautiful baby, Deia Amihan."
Encantadia first premiered in 2005 and starred Sunshine Dizon, Karylle, and Diana Zubiri alongside Iza. After two follow-ups, Etheria and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, the series was rebooted in 2016 to star Glaiza de Castro, Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, and Sanya.
