OG 'Encantadia' Sang'gres reunite on 'It's Showtime: 'Kapag magkakasama talaga kami, feeling talaga namin may magic'
It's a crossover we never knew we needed. The original Sang'gres of the 2005 edition of GMA's Encantadia reunited on an episode of ABS-CBN's It's Showtime.
During the performance of Team KALM—composed of Karylle, Amy Perez, Lassy, and Mc—on the noontime show's annual Magpasikat 2023 segment on Tuesday, Nov. 7, Diana Zubiri, Sunshine Dizon, and Iza Calzado surprised the crowd as they emerged on stage in their costumes to save Karylle's character from a group of bad guys.
After their performance, the four actresses got emotional about the reunion and noted how they struggled to meet up due to their busy schedules. Diana even flew from Australia just to be on the show.
"Four years [ago] na yung huli kong show actually and syempre napapayag ako dahil sa pamilya, namiss ko kayo, namiss kong mag-perform," Diana said who played the role of Danaya, the youngest of the Sang'gres and the guardian of Brilyante ng Lupa.
"Wala nang tanong-tanong pa, sabi nga ni Diana, pamilya. So andito kami syempre para suportahan ang kapatid naming si Karylle. Isang tawag lang niyan, magkakapit-bisig talaga kami para sa isa't-isa," said Iza who played the role of Amihan, the guardian of Brilyante ng Hangin in the series.
"Thank you for giving us this opportunity para magsama-sama kasi bibihira talaga kami magsama kahit off-cam lalo nang matagal nang wala si Diana. Kapag magkakasama talaga kami, feeling talaga namin may magic," she added.
"Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to perform together for all of you today," Sunshine said. She played the role of Pirena, the eldest and the guardian of Brilyante ng Apoy.
Aside from the Encantadia cast, Team KALM also presented mesmerizing acts from P-Pop groups like BGYO and BINI, Taylor Swift's impersonator, Taylor Sheesh, Fana, Fabio, and Roselle Nava together with her two children. David Licauco also took part as the voice actor of the animated character, "Lulu."
Earlier this month, Karylle, Iza, and Diana sent their heartfelt messages to the cast of the upcoming GMA spin-off series, Sang’gre. It stars Bianca Umali as Terra, the new keeper of the Brilyante ng Lupa; Faith Da Silva as Flamarra, keeper of the Brilyante ng Apoy; and Kelvin Miranda as Adamus, the new protector of the Brilyante ng Tubig. It will also star Rhian Ramos, who will play Mitena, Cassiopeia's twin.
Last June, director Mark Reyes said that production for Sang’gre will start soon, with the cast now training for their fight scenes. He also said that the original four Sang'gres such as Amihan, Pirena, Alena, and Danaya will still be a part of the series.
In 2018, the four also reunited at the wedding of Iza and Ben Wintle in Coron, Palawan.
