WATCH: Netflix releases teaser for Korean fantasy music drama ‘The Sound of Magic’

Netflix has just released the teaser trailer and key art for the upcoming fantasy musical K-series, The Sound of Magic

The Sound of Magic is a live-action adaptation of Annarasumanara, a well-known webtoon series, directed by Kim Sung-Youn who previously worked on Love in the Moonlight and Itaewon Class.

The six episode-series stars Ji Chang Wook (Lovestruck in the city), rookie actress Choi SungEun (Beyond Evil), and popular rising actor Hwang InYoup (True Beauty).

According to the official synopsis: “Rumor has it that a magician lives at an abandoned amusement park, and he can make someone disappear for good. Yoon Ah-Yi, a girl struggling to feed herself and her sister, experience her life change as she meets the mysterious magician Ri Eul. As Ai is forced to become an adult early, she becomes more and more distant from her childhood dream of becoming a magician and through Ri Eul, Ai and Il-Deung come to think of the true value of life.”

Those familiar with K-dramas will know that Ji ChangWook is one of the top Hallyu actors with his acting in hit dramas Empress Ki, Healer, The K2, and Suspicious Partner among others.

Choi SungEun is a new actress who debuted in 2019. She acted in the Korean science fiction anthology series SF8 and the drama Beyond Evil.

As for Hwang InYoup, he is currently one of the most popular rising actors. With his acting as the lead in the drama True Beauty, he is said to be one of the most followed Korean actors on Instagram

The Sound of Magic is the latest webtoon adaptation fo the streaming giant.

Netflix has previously found success with adaptations of digital comics spanning genres from romance to horror that are wildly popular in South Korea. Previous series that started as web-based comics include the supernatural thriller Hellbound, military drama D.P. (short for Deserter Pursuit), and All of Us Are Dead.

Here's the official summary of the original webtoon Annarasumanara by Ha IlKwon: 

"When she was little, Yun Ai dreamed of becoming a magician. But in reality, she's just a high school student who can't even afford new socks. After meeting a mysterious magician at a carnival, she decides to follow her dream."
