'There's way more to this story': New docu special to tackle Matthew Perry's final days and death investigation

Published Feb 19, 2025 4:17 pm

An upcoming documentary on Peacock is set to explore the sudden death of Matthew Perry back in 2023 and the final days leading up to it.

The streaming service has dropped the trailer for Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, showing special interviews from the Friends actor's nearest and dearest.

Among the significant topics to be discussed is Perry's battle with his addiction to alcohol and drugs, where insiders said that he was "overtaken by addictions" as "Hollywood is full of enablers."

They went on to say that the industry "really preyed on somebody vulnerable" and that there was "way more to this story" before the teaser gave a look at the people who have been accused of being involved in Perry's death.

"The defendants have all been charged. Three of them have pled guilty and will be cooperating. Two remain," said US Attorney Martin Estrada, whose office oversees the actor's case.

"The allegations show a trained doctor is injecting Mr. Perry in parking lots. We used to blame the victim. We don't do that anymore," he added.

The trailer concludes with a clip of Perry with his Friends co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow at the 1996 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Cox said, "Matthew Perry is the funniest person in the whole world."

Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the hit television sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, passed away at the age of 54. He was found unconscious in a swimming pool at his house in Los Angeles in October.

He had struggled for decades with addiction to drugs, including ketamine, which he said "eased his pain and helped him with depression."

Investigations surrounding his death lasted for months until five people were charged in August 2024 for allegedly supplying illicit ketamine to Perry in a bid to exploit his drug addiction for profit.

The charges were levied against two medical doctors, Perry's live-in assistant, a broker and a North Hollywood drug dealer known as "the Ketamine Queen," who has previously been linked to the overdose death of another man.

The live-in assistant, an acquaintance, and one of the two doctors have pleaded guilty to the charges.

Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy will stream on Peacock beginning Feb. 25.
