Dyson launches a toothbrush with a built-in camera to help you floss

Dyson's newest gadget sounds like it came straight out of a futuristic dental clinic.

The tech company recently released the Dyson CameraJet, a toothbrush with a built-in camera that can spot the gaps between your teeth and send a targeted jet of mouthwash their way.

Yes, there's really a camera in there

The CameraJet has a 100,000-pixel macro lens camera built into its brush head. As you brush, it captures 28 images per second and uses machine learning to identify gaps between your teeth in real time. Once it detects a gap, the toothbrush automatically triggers a targeted burst of mouthrinse toward the area—this way, you don't have to manually aim a water flosser between each tooth.

Dyson calls the technology Gap Optical Targeting, which is designed to help clean spaces that ordinary toothbrush bristles can miss.

The camera isn't only there to guide the water jet. Through the MyDyson app, users can also see a live view of their teeth while they brush.

The app also provides guided cleaning, brushing and flossing insights, coverage mapping, and personalized feedback to help users see which areas they may be missing.

Dyson also guaranteed users of the appliance privacy and stated that the camera is only active during live viewing or automatic jetting. Images are not recorded or stored on the toothbrush or in the cloud.

The toothbrush also uses a sonic motor and a dual-bristle brush head, with the bristles designed to clean along the gumline and remove surface stains.

Dyson's official system includes a built-in 12.5ml liquid reservoir and a charging dock that automatically refills the device when it is placed on the dock. The system is also designed to work at different angles, so users don't have to keep the toothbrush upright for the function.

The device is priced at $499.99 (P31,000) in the US and comes in Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink. Dyson also offers a larger dental system that includes the toothbrush, charging and refill dock, travel case, toothpaste, and mouthrinse.
