Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are getting together again, as the sequel to the 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is now in the works.

On June 9, 20th Century Studios shared a photo of Kudrow and Sorvino sitting in directors' chairs, holding hands with their backs to the camera.

"The reunion you've been waiting for! The Romy and Michele sequel is now in production," the caption read.

"It's finally happening. Bursting with joy to be 'reunited!'" Sorvino wrote in the comments on Instagram.

According to Variety, the upcoming sequel will stream exclusively as a Hulu Original on Disney+ internationally.

Other returning stars include Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Camryn Manheim as Toby, and Julia Campbell as Christie.

New cast members joining the franchise include Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham. There are no details yet about the characters they'll be playing.

Meanwhile, Tim Federle of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series serves as director and producer of the Romy and Michele sequel, with Robin Schiff returning as writer.

Producer Laurence Mark and executive producer Barry Kemp are also coming back for the second film, with Sorvino, Kudrow, and Schiff joining them as executive producers.

Romy and Michele told the story of two dim-witted, inseparable roommates who hit the road for their 10-year high school reunion. They suddenly realize that they lack traditional success, so they invent fake careers to impress their former classmates.

Kudrow and Sorvino recently reunited at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards as presenters for the film's 25th anniversary.

Kudrow is known for her role in Friends, Mad About You, The Opposite of Sex, Analyze This, Web Therapy, and The Comeback.

Meanwhile, Sorvino rose to stardom with Mighty Aphrodite, Summer of Sam, Mimic, Sound of Freedom, Beautiful Girls, Badland, and Mother's Day.
