'Sleep With Me,' starring Lovi Poe and Janine Gutierrez, bags audience award at Outfest
Samantha Lee's Sleep With Me, starring Lovi Poe and Janine Gutierrez, has bagged an award at the 40th Outfest Los Angles LGBTQ Film Festival.
The iWantTFC original series won an Audience Award for Best Episodic. This would be Lee's second Outfest award—she won an Emerging Talent Award in 2017 for Baka Bukas.
"Feels super surreal to have my second Outfest win—the first was the Emerging Talent Award for my first feature and now the Audience Award for my first ever series," the director wrote on Instagram. "Thank you to everyone who watched Sleep With Me and to everyone who brought this to life. We're coming home soon."
Lee and Poe are in Los Angeles for the premiere of the series.
"Couldn't be prouder of Team Sleep With Me for this Audience Choice Award for Best Episodic in the recent Outfest awards! Congratulations to our girl on fire @givemesam! Can't wait for our series to show on August 15. Manila, mark your calendars: full trailer on August 1!" Poe said about the win.
Lee has a number of sapphic movies under her belt, including Billie and Emma and Baka Bukas.
Sleep With Me tells the story of an interable couple—a radio DJ in a wheelchair and a girl who suffers from a sleeping disorder. The series premieres on August 15.
Outfest is an LGBTQ-oriented non-profit organization that produces two film festivals honoring queer stories, films, and series.
