Elon Musk's estranged daughter Vivian Wilson says she's financially independent
American media personality and model Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of tech billionaire Elon Musk, is clearing up assumptions about her finances.
Wilson set the record straight that she's earning to support herself despite having a billionaire dad. “I'm financially independent," Wilson said during Teen Vogue's 2025 summit.
"I'm making money now. Pre-Teen Vogue [cover], no. People have a lot of assumptions, and you just kinda have to deal with that," she added.
In a separate interview on Sept. 2 with The Cut, she expressed that she doesn't have a desire to be "super rich."
"People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal,” she told the outlet.
“My mom is rich, right? But obviously the other one is unimaginable degrees of wealthy," she added, seemingly referring to Musk.
“I don’t have a desire to be super rich,” Wilson said, who lives with three roommates. “I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter, and some expendable income, which is nice and much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”
She previously said in Teen Vogue's March special cover issue that she's been financially independent from Musk since 2020, when she came out as a transgender woman.
Wilson has been open about her relationship with Musk, saying he was "not a supportive father" and was "rarely present" in her life, left to be taken care of by her mother—the Tesla CEO's first wife, author Justine Musk—or nannies despite him having joint custody.
She also claimed that Musk berated her whenever he was present. “He was cold,” she said. “He’s very quick to anger. He is uncaring and narcissistic.”
Wilson's parents divorced in 2008 and shared custody between their homes in Los Angeles.
She currently works as a model for fashion brands like Wildfang, Tomboyx, and Alexis Bittar and has been featured in magazines including Teen Vogue, Dazed, and New York Magazine's The Cut.
