Heads up, travelers: Plane tickets may get pricier as fuel surcharge rises
Those planning to fly in the second half of September may want to keep an eye on their airfare.
The Civil Aeronautics Board announced that the applicable fuel surcharge for passenger and cargo services from Sept. 16 to 30 has risen to Level 14.

The new level will allow airlines to collect P457 to P1,336 more per domestic passenger, depending on the flight distance. This is up from the P423 to P1,237 surcharge range under Level 13.
The hike also applies to international flights departing from the Philippines, with surcharges increasing to P1,509.08 to P11,220.71, from P1,396.74 to P10,385.42 previously.
The higher surcharge comes amid continued tensions in the Middle East, including disruptions and risks affecting major oil and shipping routes such as the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz.
The additional charge is meant to help airlines recover higher operating costs brought about by changes in fuel prices.
