Selena Gomez hits back at cosmetic surgery speculation: 'I hate this'
Selena Gomez aired her frustration at another round of fan speculations that she underwent cosmetic surgery.
The actress and singer shot down rumors as she left a comment on a TikTok video by user Marissa Barrionuevo, who works at a plastic surgeon’s office and is known for speculating about what surgeries celebrities have had for educational purposes.
In the video, Barrionuevo showed side-by-side pictures of Selena, one from a few years ago and another from the 2023 Golden Globes. While the TikTok user declined to guess what cosmetic work the actress has received, emphasizing that she has "been through so much in her life, especially medically-related," Selena couldn't help but type in a response in the comments section.

"Honestly, I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone," Selena wrote, with other commenters assuming "stripes" was an autocorrect for "steroids."
Following her comment, Barrionuevo posted another video apologizing to the Disney Channel alum for any offense she committed toward her.
"I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me," she began before agreeing with the actress that the public should leave her alone with regard to her appearance.
"You don’t owe it to anyone to tell us why you don't look the same as what you did when you were a teenager, or in your 20s... so I am sorry if that made you feel any sort of way," Barrionuevo said.
But Selena assured that all was well, writing, "I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes."
"Me too sister, I love you! Hope one day we can hug and be friends," Barrionuevo responded.
This is not the first time that Selena has spoken up about her physical appearance. Following the body-shaming comments she received from her Golden Globes appearance in January 2023, the actress opened up about her fluctuating weight in a TikTok video a month later, saying it was because of her lupus medication.
"When I'm taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I'm off of it, I tend to lose weight... I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they're going through, and no one knows the real story," she said.
"I just want people to know that you're beautiful, and you're wonderful. Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s---t, but I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they're what helps me," she added.
