Veteran actress Delia Razon passes away at 94

Published Mar 16, 2025 4:51 pm

Veteran actress Delia Razon has passed away at the age of 94.

Her granddaughter, Carla Abellana, announced the tragic news through her Instagram account. She posted a picture of Delia's obituary detailing that she died on March 15.

"Celebrating the life of Lucy May G. Reyes," the obituary read, referring to the late actress' real name.

Carla opted not to give any details about her grandmother's cause of death.

Delia kickstarted her 60-year acting career at 18 years old in the 1948 film Awit ng Bulag.

Her talent was discovered by film producer Dona Narcisa de Leon, who was eventually the one to give her the screen name "Delia Razon." Delia subsequently starred in the 1948 film Krus na Bituin, which was led by the likes of Jaime de la Rosa and Lilia Dizon.

She then went on to form a love team with another accomplished actor Rogelio de la Rosa in the years to come. Together, they worked on the films Prinsipe Amante in 1950, Prinsipe Amante sa Rubitanya in 1951, and Dakilang Pagpapakasakit in 1954.

She later settled down with her husband Aurelio Reyes, whose daughter Rea Reyes gave birth to Carla after marrying actor Rey "PJ" Abellana.

Carla often praises her grandmother for being the one to teach her the ropes when it comes to acting

"Just to use your eyes. That’s what my lola keeps on telling me. What is acting if you don’t see it in the eyes of the actor, that’s what she said," she said in an interview with The Philippine STAR.

"My lola is very proud and happy for me… Naiiyak pa 'yan pag may maganda akong nababalita sa kanya. She’s so supportive to the point that she keeps all my pictures, magazine covers, etc.," she highlighted, adding that her Delia is a "main source of support."

Delia's last known film role was in the 2010 indie film Buenavista (Ang kasaysayan ng Lucena).
