Enrique Gil sells 2 pairs of rare shoes for P1.5M

Enrique Gil sure knows how to bring in big bucks not only as an actor but also as a sneakerhead, with the recent sale of his shoes for a whopping price of P1.5 million.

The I Am Not Big Bird star recently sold his customized Nike Mag Back to the Future shoes and Nike Air Yeezy 2 Red October to content creator and entrepreneur Dane Gorospe, as seen on the latter's vlog uploaded last Feb. 3.

What makes the two pairs of shoes special is that they are both collector's items, with Enrique claiming that there are only three of them owning the customized Mag shoes.

Dubbed the Nike Air Mag Ironman Custom, the pair has functionalities resembling the iconic Marvel superhero. For one, it has auto laces or the ability to automatically tighten when the user puts them on. It also has LED lights on the heel, midsole, and strap resembling those from Tony Stark's Bleeding Edge armor.

On top of that, it was custom-painted by renowned sneaker artist Mache with a red and gold paint job.

Enrique said that he initially bought it for his "King of the Gil" dance concert in Araneta back in 2013, but 'never got to use it on stage." He instead wore the pair for a photo shoot.

He purchased it from a sneaker collector although the seller didn't want to let go of the pair. He added that former New York Knicks player Nate Robinson and Fil-Am record producer Apl de Ap also wanted to get hold of the rare kicks.

"He (the former owner) didn't want to sell it talaga, pero I begged him to sell it, so binenta niya sa akin," Enrique recalled. "Actually si Nate Robinson and Apl de Ap wanted to get the exact pair kaso si Apl de Ap, hindi niya size. Si Nate Robinson—actually hindi ko alam yung size 11 ba siya—gusto niya talaga kunin ito pero hindi siya pumayag na lumipad sa Pilipinas."

"So hindi siya pumunta, and naka-display lang 'to forever until napapayag natin siya," he said.

The 31-year-old actor added that he purchased the customized shoes with a price tag of P750,000 when he bought it.

"Usually ang range into mga P500K before, back then pero [I spent] P250,000 for the shipping and custom artist fee so umabot siya ng P750,000 when I bought it seven years ago," he noted.

Meanwhile, the Nike Air Yeezy 2 October that Enrique was offering Dane comes in red and features a round toe, a lace-up and touch-strap front fastening, and Nike's signature swoosh logo.

The actor and producer said that although the pair isn't his size (11.5), he still opted to buy it: "Hindi ko ito size, pero kumagat pa din ako kasi bihira ka lang makakita ng ganyan."

Enrique offered to sell his Air Yeezy Red October for P750,000 to P800,000 while his Air Mag Ironman Custom's asking price is P1.2 million.

According to online sneaker marketplace StockX, the non-customized version of an Air Mag now sells for $76,925 (P4.3 million) while a pair of Air Yeezy Red October fetches for $16,586 (P930,000).

Dane, however, initially offered to buy both pairs for P1.4 million, but Enrique haggled the price to P1.5 million. They instead opted to go for the vlog's tradition of flipping a coin to determine the fair decision, with Enrique winning the game.

The actor also used the content creator's platform to promote his comeback film I Am Not Big Bird which is slated for release in theaters on Feb. 14.
