Gigi de Lana mourns death of mother Imelda de Lana

Gigi de Lana’s mother, Imelda de Lana, succumbed to breast cancer, the singer-actress announced on May 14.

Gigi shared the heartbreaking news of her mother's passing on her Facebook account, expressing gratitude for everyone's prayers with the words, “Salamat sa lahat ng dasal niyo kay mama. She passed away at 9:19 p.m. May 14, 2024. Mahal na mahal kita mama. Pahinga ka na.”

During her Rated Gigi show in Canada a week ago, on May 8th, Gigi halted her performance midway to request prayers from the audience. She disclosed that her mother was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), emphasizing the gravity of the situation. 

“My mom is at the ICU now. If you have seen my Instagram stories, meron doon prayer. If you want to pray for my mom, you can pray for her if you want. She’s fighting for her life now, and I don’t know if pag-uwi ko nandoon pa siya. But I really wish she would be there. I really want to hug her and kiss her.”

In an interview with Pep last year, Gigi opened up about her mother's battle against stage 4 breast cancer, spanning four arduous years. She expressed her unwavering support for her mother's journey through chemotherapy through her decision to cut her own hair short in solidarity.

“I decided to cut my hair; sinabi ko na lang new look. The main reason was my mom. She is doing chemo.”

Gigi had also been selling personal items on her YouTube and Facebook accounts to raise funds for her mother’s treatment and medical expenses.

Gigi is a singer and actress known for her participation in the singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan of It’s Showtime. She made her film debut in 2020 for Four Sisters Before the Wedding and starred in Hello Heart alongside Gerald Anderson.
