Veteran comedian Matutina passes away at 78

Published Feb 14, 2025 4:25 pm

Veteran comedian Matutina, best known for her role in '70s sitcom John en Marsha, has died. She was 78 years old.

Her daughter, Shiela Guerrero, made the confirmation to GMA News.

“My mom passed away this morning,” she told the media outlet on Friday, Feb. 14.

Matutina's medical certificate shared with GMA News states that her immediate cause of death was acute respiratory failure due to volume fluid overload.

The antecedent cause, meanwhile, was stage 5 chronic kidney disease due to hypertensive nephrosclerosis.

The underlying cause of death was hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

Matutina, born Evelyn Bontogon-Guerrero, famously portrayed the helper of Doña Delilah Jones (portrayed by Dely Atay-atayan) in John en Marsha starring Dolphy and Nida Blanca.

She was commended for her comedic timing and distinct voice.

Some of her iconic catchphrases include "Et cera, et cetera" and "Tseke mo o tseke ko?"

She also appeared in movies like Tu-yay and His Magic Payong, Family Tree, Swindler's List, Sosy Problems, and She's Dating the Gangster, based on her credits on Internet Movie Database or IMDb.
