Trans star Hunter Schafer says new passport lists her as male following Donald Trump's executive order

Trans actress Hunter Schafer is speaking out against US President Donald Trump's administration as she revealed that her passport now lists her gender as male following an executive order.

In a video posted on her TikTok stories, the Euphoria star shared that her newly issued passport has changed her sex to the one that was originally assigned to her at birth prior to her transition, causing her to have a "harsh reality check."

This comes after Trump signed an order declaring that the government will only recognize two sexes: male and female. This affects official documents such as passports, visas, and Global Entry cards.

Previously, during former president Joe Biden's administration, US citizens were able to select “X” as their gender marker on passports.

"My initial reaction to this, because our president is a lot of talk, was like, 'I'll believe it when I see it.' And today, I saw it on my new passport," Schafer said.

She recounted that her gender markers were first changed during her teenage years when she got her first driver's license, and since then, all her documents have identified her as female. But after having her passport stolen while filming in Spain last year, she applied for a new one.

"I’m not making this post to fear-monger, or to create drama, or receive consolation, I don’t need it. But I do think it’s worth posting to sort of note the reality of the situation and that it’s happening," the actress said.

"I was shocked because I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen. I want to acknowledge my privilege, not only as a celebrity trans woman who is white and thin and can adhere to contemporary beauty standards... and it still happened," she added.

Schafer believed that since she never had her birth certificate changed, the government may have used it to revert her gender back to the original one.

"I guess I’m just sort of scared of the way this stuff slowly gets implemented," she admitted. "There's a lot of talk, and then things start happening, and we start to normalize the circumstances we're under."

Despite this, Schafer stressed that she isn't letting the misgendering get the better of her.

"I don’t give a f---k that they put an 'M' on my passport. It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness, however, it does make life a little harder," she said.

"I’m pretty sure it’s going to come along with having to out myself to border patrol agents and that whole gig much more often than I would like to or is really necessary," she continued.

She ended her statement by highlighting that "trans people are beautiful" and that they "are never going to stop existing."

"I'm never going to stop being trans, a letter on a passport can't change that, and f--k this administration," she said.

Trump's executive order limiting gender identity is just one of his administration's campaigns that limit the rights of transgender and non-binary people.

He recently signed an executive order attempting to exclude transgender girls and women from female sports.
