Lisa apologizes as she reflects on leaked video where BLACKPINK members rapped racial slur
Singer Lisa became remorseful as she reflected on the controversial leaked video in which she and her fellow BLACKPINK members used a racial slur while rapping along to songs during their trainee days.
In an interview with Variety, Lisa was asked about her new documentary Always Lalisa, which explores a behind-the-scenes look at the singer's life as she pursues a solo career.
It also features some of the controversies she experienced while under South Korean record label YG Entertainment, including the racist remark.
Lisa admitted that everything in the video was indeed real, which made things difficult for her as the footage got leaked before her first solo performance at Coachella.
"Everything is real. It’s all there. I was just sad because I really wanted to focus on my performance, but things happened, and you can’t control stuff. But I fought through it," she said.
The K-pop artist went on to say sorry for the past incident. "I really have to apologize. To be honest, I’m Thai, and I grew up in Thailand. There isn’t any education for that, so at the time, I didn’t know."
"Now I’ve learned and got educated about that, and I would never [do it again]. This is not OK. Seriously," she added.
The video was leaked in March 2025 by an individual claiming to be a former YG Entertainment employee and showed Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé during their apparent teenage years practicing their rap skills. A few of the English-language songs they covered contained the N-word.
So far, Lisa has been the only one to break her silence on the issue.
While the singer is currently working on her solo career, she highlighted that she still wants to be a member of BLACKPINK until her 50s.
"If I’m 50, I still want to do BLACKPINK! We just finished our tour earlier this year, but we talk a lot about this and have discussions about doing a little break—like I did almost two years ago—but we’re always going to be together. We just finished the Blackpink tour, so now we’re back to our solo eras again," she told the news outlet.
Apart from her singing career, Lisa has also dabbled in acting, having made her debut in 2025 in the HBO television series The White Lotus.
