American news site accidentally uses old photo of Kim Chiu, Xian Lim to mark Lunar New Year

Published Jan 30, 2025 3:59 pm

American news site TMZ caught the attention of social media users after using an old photo of ex-lovers Kim Chiu and Xian Lim to mark the Chinese New Year.

On their Instagram account, TMZ posted a carousel of pictures showing stars celebrating the occasion. Among those included are John Legend, Philip Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Kelly Hu, Cassey Ho, Harry Shum Jr. Bowen Yang, and Sherry Cola and Joseph Lee.

"Lunar New Year is officially underway, meaning it's time to celebrate the Year of the Snake! Swipe through our gallery to celebrate with the stars," they captioned the post.

However, commenters noticed that one photo was outdated. They pointed out that the image of Kim and Xian, where the ex-couple is dressed in red and seen embracing beside a lavish feast, was from 2022.

"Research before posting it, they broke up already," one user told the outlet.

"TMZ is not doing their research. Pic 4 is an old photo of a Filipino celebrity couple who broke up years ago. I'm sure their respective partners won't be happy if they spent CNY 2025 together," another said.

As of writing, TMZ has not deleted nor edited the post, and remains published on their Instagram page.

Kim and Xian confirmed their breakup in December 2023 after nearly 12 years together.

"End of a love story. It took me a while to say this until today. We owe our supporters the truth, but we also respect each other’s time of healing. In a relationship, love is always a significant factor, but sometimes love is not enough," the actress wrote in an Instagram post.

While Kim has yet to open her heart to a new partner, Xian has been dating filmmaker Iris Lee since last year, highlighting that they "are very happy."

He clarified, however, that he and Iris started dating after his split with Kim, refuting rumors that there was a third party involved in the cause of his split with the latter.

"There's no third party. That's it. That plain and simple," he stressed in an interview on Esquire Philippines.
