'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' renewed for Season 3, to adapt third book in series
The adventure continues at Camp Half-Blood as the television adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been renewed for a third season!
The good news was revealed on the website of Rick Riordan, who authored the original fantasy novels the series is based on.
"We have been greenlit for season three, even before season two debuts this December! We were pretty confident this news was coming eventually, but still—WOW," Riordan wrote.
He noted how the adaptation has been a hit on Disney+, being among the most-watched shows on the platform in 2024, and one of the top five most-watched original series across all of streaming after its launch in 2023.
"Congratulations to the cast and crew who have worked so hard on this project. Also, what a testament to you, the fans, and the enthusiasm you’ve brought to the show. We could not have done it without you," Riordan highlighted.
"I am eternally grateful, and I’m confident that if you liked season one, you will love what is to come," he added.
According to a press release from Disney, the third season will be based on The Titan’s Curse, which is the third installment of Riordan’s bestselling Percy Jackson book series.
This is notable as The Titan’s Curse has never received a film or television adaptation before, making the Disney+ series a first for the book.
"This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time," Riordan noted.
"It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide," he continued.
Riordan's novel series previously had two film adaptations—Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013—based on the first two books of the series. These were produced by 20th Century Fox and starred Logan Lerman.
The second season of the television series stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer. Production recently wrapped in Vancouver, and it is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in December of this year.
The story centers on the titular character Percy, a demigod who is suddenly thrust into a world where Greek gods, heroes, and monsters exist in the real world.
The Titan's Curse, in particular, focuses on Percy and his friends going on a dangerous quest to rescue his fellow demigod Annabeth Chase and the Greek goddess Artemis, who have both been kidnapped by the Titan Atlas.
