Samantha Bernardo looks ethereal in ‘Lipad’ gown at MGI preliminaries

By Brooke Villanueva Published Mar 26, 2021 5:21 pm

Samantha Bernardo looked lovely in an emerald green gown decked out in gold crystals at the Miss Grand International’s evening gown preliminaries.

The country’s MGI bet wore a Louis Pangilinan number called “Lipad,” which took inspiration from the yellow-throat leafbird endemic to Palawan—Bernardo’s home province.

Delicately embroidered by hand with beads and sequins, the gold accents served as “a representation of the yellow throat of the bird and feathers from fibers extracted by hand and worked into fine threads woven together in the lower part of the gown,” as per Binibining Pilipinas.

“Emerald green shows a woman’s growth, humility, and courage—characteristics that made our queen Samantha grand and awe-inspiring,” the organization added, referring to its overall color.

Bernardo is vying to win the Miss Grand International crown tomorrow, March 27. She’s currently leading in the pageant’s Popular Vote, ahead of Miss Vietnam, Miss Indonesia, Miss Malaysia, and Miss Guatemala.
