The Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International (MGI) Samantha Bernardo is leading in the pageant’s Popular Vote.

The pageant’s Facebook page posted this morning the Top 5 Popular Vote contestants with the beauty queen from Puerto Princesa, Palawan at No. 1, followed by (in order) Miss Vietnam, Miss Indonesia, Miss Malaysia and Miss Guatemala. Voting was done through the pagreant’s Star Phone app.

Miss Grand International is being held in Thailand with the coronation set for tomorrow, March 27. Several pre-pageant activities have been concluded including Best Costume and Best Swimwear.

Throughout the competition, Bernardo has worn outfits with Philippine symbolisms. Her emerald green gown by Louis Pangilinan, according to her Instagram post, was inspired by a bird that’s endemic to Palawan—the “yellow-throated leafbird.”

“This emerald green-colored gown is premeditated with hand-embroidered beads and sequins. Accentuated with gold crystals as a representation of the yellow throat of the bird and feathers from fibers extracted by hand and worked into fine threads woven together in the lower part of the gown. Emerald green shows a woman’s growth, humility, and courage.”

In the preliminary interview last Monday, she wore a white dress with pleated skirt by Chico Estiva, paired with a white bolero embellished with pearls by John Lee Betita. She also wore earrings inspired by the country’s national flower, sampaguita.
