Miss Grand Philippines Samantha Bernardo recently stunned many with her national costume at the Miss Grand International 2020.
Dubbed “Agila,” her outfit was inspired by the Philippine eagle, our National Bird, which is “considered the largest of the extant eagles in terms of length and wing surface, the rarest and most powerful birds in the world.”
Designer Patrick Isorena had the intention of raising awareness on the endangered creature with his creation.

Why was it decked out in striking gold? “Gold as the main color of the costume to represent the magnificent journey of our Queen,” he wrote in an Instagram post, “and to pay homage to the MGI Golden Crown.”
“Just like gold it is extravagant, wealthy, rich and indestructible, like Samantha—a queen who never gave up on her dreams,” Isorena added.
This year's Miss Grand International coronation night, where Bernardo is looking to be the first Filipina to take home the MGI crown, will be held on March 27 in Bangkok, Thailand.
