Cut-outs, bold prints, sparkles: Our favorite looks at the 2021 American Music Awards

Published Nov 22, 2021 6:54 pm

Red carpets are finally back at the 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs) and a lot of artists definitely brought their fashion A-game.

Cardi B, Olivia Rodrigo, JoJo, and BTS were among the celebrities who served post-lockdown eleganza at the AMAs, where cut-outs, bold prints, sparkles, and body-hugging gowns dominated the red carpet.

If you’re obsessed with monitoring the looks of your favorite celebs, take a look at some of our favorites at the AMAs.

It’s tough to make a group look cohesive with tailored fits per member but BTS made it work. The seven members looked dashing in their black and gray fits by Louis Vuitton. We’re especially obsessed with V, Suga, Jungkook, Jimin, and J-Hope’s belted tuxedos since these are refreshing takes on classic menswear.

Red carpets are finally in, but it doesn’t mean masking should be forced out of style—literally. Cardi B arrived on the red carpet wearing statement earrings, a black-veiled gown by Schiaparelli, and a golden mask. She also paired gold fingernail rings with black gloves to finish off the look. What can we say, it’s camp done right.

Winnie Harlow

If there’s one celebrity who always understands the assignment, it’s Winnie Harlow. The Canadian model looked divine in her beaded see-through dress by Zuhair Murad which showed off her delicious mocha skin. The dress features dangling teardrop-shaped gemstone beads sewn in the right places.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo showed that she’s Gen Z’s pocket rocket in her Y2K-inspired fishtail gown by David Koma. The sequined powder lilac dress is a combination of sweet and spicy as it hugged Rodrigo’s figure without being too daring.

Billy Porter

Trust Billy Porter to always show up in show-stopping creations on the red carpet—and his turquoise pants suit didn’t disappoint. We thought the suit’s striking color would drown out his complexion but he definitely made it work. His umbrella headdress finished off the look, adding the signature flair he’s always been known for.

JoJo

Millennials, rejoice! JoJo made her AMAs comeback after 17 years, and her shiny silver dress is a sight to behold. The dress is a work of art as the thigh-high slit, strategic cut-outs, and sweetheart neckline accentuated her curvy figure. Plus, the silver color complemented her skin tone beautifully.

Larray

The AMAs red carpet was a crash course on how pants suits are supposed to be worn, and Larray was one of the standouts. The YouTuber didn’t hold back from showing his unique sense of style as his look proved that wearing a suit doesn’t have to be boring. Come through, flower power!

Chloe Bailey

Chloe Bailey’s black ballgown was a homage to romantic ballgowns with its train—with a sexier twist. The gown looked expensive with its strategic cut-outs, daring neckline, and velvety fabric. She finished off her look with silver accessories, black pointed-toe pumps, and a beaded chain.

Marsai Martin

Marsai Martin shimmered on the red carpet in a breathtaking Missoni column gown—which made her look 10-feet tall. The colorful zigzag pattern was a bold and eye-catching statement piece, without looking too busy. She finished off her look with an amethyst eyeshadow and amber earrings, without taking the focus away from her gown.

Rachel Zegler

West Side Story star Rachel Zegler’s ballgown was a combination of romantic and chic with its ruffled skirt. The gown, which featured a halter neckline and triangle cut-out, is a tribute to 2021’s fashion trends without looking too overwhelming. Stunning.
