Some people tend to skip bling when dressing up, thinking they are unnecessary add-ons to their outfits, but style experts see them just as important as clothes.

In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, wardrobe stylists explained why they are not optional but a must on every occasion. “Everything that you wear defines who you are, and this includes accessories,” said fashion stylist Aldrin Ramos. “Accessorizing is a great way to convey your personality to the world and to the people around you. It adds character and identity to a person's style.”

Fashion stylist Altaire Bautista told L!fe that accessories help you put your own personal flare to your outfits. “Aside from being great conversation-starters, they also tie up your looks. They take simple, understated ensembles and elevate them to new heights, too,” she explained.

Looking to up your looks with accessories but don’t know where to start? Choosing the right ones can be tricky as Ramos said it greatly depends on your chosen ensembles as well as their texture, color, and cut. “It’s all about balance and proportion,” he said. “Age is of consideration as well aside from the oaccasion itself.”

Below are some of their best accessorizing tips and recommendations for various events.

Summer trips

When going on summer getaways, Bautista suggested opting for bold and colorful accessories, including quirky ones.

Ramos, meanwhile, said it would be good to pair your summer outfits with good sunglasses and hoop earrings.

Formal events

Attending a formal event soon? Drop earrings and a thin necklace could be your best friends in keeping a classy look. “Pair them with a simple watch, either a metal or leather one,” Bautista recommended, noting that chic and simple accessories “will always give you the timeless elegance you want.”

Ramos added that it’s all about keeping everything classic. “Go for a nice, elegant clutch or handbag, a stud diamond to pair with a necklace or bracelet,” he said.

Nights out

For Ramos, hoops and chunky earrings would help you stand out during nights out with friends.

If you want to wear necklaces and bracelets still, Bautista suggested layering them for a fun look. “Layered necklaces and layered bracelets paired with a simple pair of earrings keep your outfits fun while looking effortless.”

Brunch with friends

Having brunch with your barkada? Silver and gold pieces could give you that chic vibe without going overboard. “I would always pair these pieces with my thin-strap leather watches and black or brown sunglasses,” Bautista said.

Ramos also suggested wearing a watch, simple hoop earrings, or a stud.

Your own birthday party

You are the star of your birthday party, so you can do whatever you want and go all out with accessories on your special day.

“I love wearing lots of earrings for my piercings. I would always mix and match dangling, studs, and drop earrings to make my look elevated,” said Bautista.

The fashion expert also suggested wearing a good mix of bangles and rings. “Just make sure they would still complement my outfit instead of overpowering it,” she stressed.

Ramos also said you can wear pieces that simply make you feel happy and good about yourself. “Just go for it. Be unapologetic. Wear what you want! Besides, it’s your birthday!”
