GALLERY: Miss Universe Philippines 2026 candidates channel bodies of water in eye-catching national costumes
This year’s Miss Universe Philippines delegates highlighted the rich marine biodiversity and cultural identity of their respective provinces through their national costume showcase.
50 delegates brought this year’s “Bodies of Water” theme to life through eye-catching and evocative national costumes that expressed pride in their respective provinces while also highlighting the artistry of Filipino designers.
From the initial top three, six candidates were selected for Best National Costume—three chosen by the judges and the other three by the Miss Universe Philippines organization.
Among the standout candidates is Tacloban’s Jacqueline Gulrajani, who used the Super Typhoon Yolanda that wreaked havoc in the province as her costume. Her skirt featured elements of human-like figures wading through the waters, along with pieces of destroyed materials. Her shoulders were adorned with cloud-like armor, while her headdress featured a white and silver bedazzled figure of a cyclone with a center that resembles the eye of the storm.
Baguio City’s Roxie Baeyens spotlighted the city's famous swan boats at Burnham Lake, while Donna Rein Nuguid of Pangasinan channeled Aman Sinaya, the ancient sea spirit of the province.
Iloilo Province’s Nicklyn Jutay showcased Angel Wing Clam, locally known as Diwal, which is a celebrated delicacy in Panay. Alexandria Colmenares of Negros Occidental deviated a little from a mystical-looking costume and wore a sardine-inspired costume to take pride of the province's thriving sardine industry.
Meanwhile, Pampanga’s Allyson Hetland showcased the province's Libad, or Fluvial Parade tradition of Apalit, which honors Saint Peter the Apostle, the patron saint of fishermen.
