Gerald Anderson sees himself settling down, starting a family soon: ‘I’m just taking my time’
Even before admitting his relationship with actress Julia Barretto, Gerald Anderson has openly said that he sees himself settling down and starting a family in the near future.
In a vlog by “Pinoy Big Brother” alumnus Joe Vargas last month, Gerald said he has plans of getting married, adding he considers it as the “next chapter” of his life.
So, naturally, during his launch as the newest endorser for multivitamin supplement Rogin-E on Friday, March 5, members of the press asked the actor: is he really ready to start a family?
Gerald, who turns 32 years old today, said: “Siyempre naman. Siyempre naman doon din yung punta natin.”
He said that thinking about the future—specifically, thinking about his future of having a family—has been an “extra motivation for him” to keep things in order, particularly because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Hindi naman natin na-expect ito,” Gerald said of the current pandemic.
“So you have to be… kailangan solid tayo. Kailangan okay yung mga finances natin. Kailangan okay yung mga sitwasyon natin sa buhay.”
When asked if he already found the person he will start a family with, Gerald answered: “I think malapit na doon.”
During the press conference, Gerald avoided answering questions about who this person is—although he was speculated to be in a relationship with Julia.
“Agad-agad ha,” he quipped when a reporter followed up who the person is.
Gusto ko na magkapamilya. Is it the right time? I don't think so. I think marami pa akong kailangang matutunan. Andami ko natutunan during the pandemic, mga lessons na itinuturo sa ating lahat.
But turns out, there’s a reason why Gerald was coy about it during this particular interview. Literally minutes after his Rogin-E launch and press conference ended, ABS-CBN uploaded a video of Gerald being interviewed by TV host Boy Abunda. In the interview, Gerald said that he is currently “very happy” with Julia, a seeming admission of their long-rumored, long-hinted romantic relationship.
Is it the right time?
Gerald also reiterated during the presscon that he wants to have a family. “Gusto ko na magkapamilya.”
But he clarified that it may not be the right time to plunge into the family life as he still wants to prepare for it properly and more thoroughly.
“Gusto ko na magkapamilya. Is it the right time? I don't think so. I think marami pa akong kailangang matutunan. Andami ko natutunan during the pandemic, mga lessons na itinuturo sa ating lahat,” Gerald explained.
“I’m just trying to… kumbaga sa giyera, kung ako sundalo, gusto ko ready-ng ready na ako sumabak. I’m just taking my time.”
“We’ll see. Malalaman niyo din yan,” he quipped.
And why does he want to have a family soon? Is it because he’s already 32 years old? Is it because of the uncertainty of the times we live in, pandemic and all?
“Sabay-sabay lahat yan. Timing ng buhay natin,” he said.
Gerald further mused, “Alam na rin natin yan, na parang, you know… mas malapit na kasi ako doon. Gusto ko na rin makakita ng maliliit na ako, yung mga aalagaan ko, who will give me the extra motivation din para pagbutihan ko trabaho ko.”
“But I think… I don’t know. Ako, I think yun ang purpose ng buhay nating lahat, it’s to bring life also sa mundo na ito. And, as men, provide for our families.”
“Timing din ng buhay. Sabay-sabay ding nangyari—sa edad, pandemic, yun.”
It’s interesting to note that Julia, in an appearance in the vlog of her sister Dani last month, also said that she wants to have a kid.
“Yeah. That’s the only thing. I just want a kid. Really, it’s really as simple as that,” she said.
In a statement that somewhat echoes Gerald’s regarding bringing life into the world as one’s purpose in life, Julia said: “I feel like I have a purpose in this world, and that purpose is to be a mother.”
