It's a big day for aspiring lawyers in the Philippines as the Supreme Court has finally announced the examinees who passed the 120th Bar examinations held in November last year.

A total of 3,992 out of 9,183 or 43.4% of test-takers succeeded in the Bar, with the top five all coming from the University of the Philippines. Other topnotchers, meanwhile, came from the University of San Carlos, San Beda College Alabang, and Ateneo de Manila University.

It's indeed a proud moment for both the examinees who poured their blood and sweat in studying, as well as their families who supported them all the way. But their joyful celebration is also shared by some key personalities in Philippine politics, who have all taken the time to give their heartiest congratulations and a few inspiring words to those who emerged successful.

Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, who headed the 2020 to 2021 Bar exams, highlighted that examinees should always practice humility no matter the result, as it's an important characteristic in becoming a lawyer.

"Be humble. Prepare yourselves. Accept the results. Your attitude to success or failure contributes to your character. Becoming a lawyer is not an individual aggrandizement, but a profession for others and to do justice," he wrote on Twitter.

Human rights lawyer and activist Neri Colmenares, who was a senatorial candidate in the 2022 elections, gave well wishes to the aspiring lawyers, stressing, "The battle has been long and tough, the wait wearying; but your unwavering aspiration for equality, freedom, and justice will be your strength."

He also posted a picture of him with some advice to Bar passers: "Sana kapag pumasa na kayo, maging people's lawyer din kayo. More importantly, be the best lawyer that money cannot buy."

Sen. Win Gatchalian also gave a warm applause to those who passed and urged them to always use their knowledge for the good of others, "Congratulations sa mga bagong abogado! Gamitin po ninyo ang inyong mga natutunan para makatulong sa nangangailangan."

Sen. Sonny Angara meanwhile tweeted, "Congrats sa mga bagong abogado! Congrats Peyups—honor and excellence."

Mae Diane Azores, who topped the 2022 Bar exams, also gushed about the results, writing, "Congratulations to our new lawyers and to your proud family and friends!"

The 2022 Bar exams were held digitally and on-site in 14 testing centers, five of which are in Metro Manila.
