Before flying to Eliat, Israel for the 70th Miss Universe pageant, Beatrice Luigi Gomez underwent training with none other than the King of Talk. On The Interviewer, she learned some tips from Boy Abunda—a trained public speaker—on how to nail the question-and-answer portion of the tilt.
First and foremost, Abunda emphasized the importance of going to your core as well as keeping your instinct and rationality in mind. “Don’t attempt to look and sound intelligent,” he told Gomez. “Never look for approval because the moment you look for approval and validation, that’s where you’ll fall.”
Next is focusing on the moment. “In the moment, it is only the question and you. That’s all that matters. Nothing else,” said Abunda, who later added that there are some exercises that can be done to answer questions better such as the spell talk, power declaration, breathing, and freedom exercise—or “calling something anything except what it is,” as Abunda put it.
After stressing that it’s likewise paramount to keep “WOLS” in mind, which stands for Watch, Observe, Learn, and Speak, Abunda concluded the training session with a simple yet impactful tip: “Listen, listen, listen… and win.”

Gomez is set to compete at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant on Dec. 12 (Dec. 13 in Manila, Philippines). She was one of Missosology’s top 10 hot picks, where she placed eighth.
