Queer couple dressed as Disney princes got engaged in dreamy proposal: 'We all deserve a fairytale ending'

One gay couple's magical proposal proved that fairytale endings aren't just for storybooks—they're for real life, too.

A touching and unforgettable moment unfolded when Jose Casanova dressed as Prince Adam from Beauty and the Beast proposed to his fiancé actor and Zumba instructor Cristian Brocal, who donned an Aladdin costume.

They popped the question during a Three Kings Day event in Beniel, a town in Spain's Murcia region.

In the video, which feminist LGBTQ+ collective Epéntica Beniel shared on Instagram, a flashmob performance featuring performers wearing classic Disney characters began as the couple professed their love to each other.

A woman dressed as Belle from Beauty and the Beast then handed Casanova a red cushion and approached Brocal.

Casanova knelt as Brocal nodded and gave his resounding "yes."

The romantic event was showered with celebratory music and confetti, and performers dressed as Princess Jasmine, Snow White, Ursula the Sea Witch, and the Queen of Hearts cheered the couple.

"On a magical night like Kings, in the midst of all the people, with their dreams, wishes, lights, illusions and stars, [Jose Casanova] and [Cristian Brocal] have made [the] public space a place for diversity and visibility, and said yes to love and equality," Epéntica wrote in the caption.

The feminist collective added, "Because every boy and girl deserves to grow up with LGBTQ+ references in their stories, learning that love, in all its forms, is as real and brave as fairytales."

'We all deserve a fairytale ending'

In a separate post, Brocal also proudly announced the romantic event, emphasizing that every LGBTQ+ couple deserves their own happily ever after.

"We all deserve a fairytale ending. But this is just the beginning," the Zumba instructor wrote.

"Sharing with you the video of the most magical moment I have ever experienced. I have no words. Just thanks to life, and thanks to you [Jose Casanova]. I couldn't be happier. All I can say is... I'M GETTING MARRIED," Brocal added.

LGBTQ+ rights in Spain

Spain's journey toward LGBTQ+ rights has been marked by significant milestones, making it one of the "most culturally liberal" and "welcoming countries" for LGBTQ+ travelers.

One of the most pivotal moments came in 2005, when Spain became one of the first countries in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. This landmark decision signaled a broader shift toward equality.

Likewise, adoption for same-sex partners is legal in Spain.

In 2023, the country's parliament passed the "Ley Trans" or "Trans Law," which allows people to self-identify their gender and change their legal sex. Through this law, people over 16 can change their gender independently, while people between 14 and 16 need their parents' approval. They also no longer need to undergo psychological or medical evaluations to undergo this process.

In 2021, a number of male teachers across Spain came to school wearing skirts as a form of protest after a male student was expelled and sent to a psychologist for wearing a skirt in 2020. This sparked the #LaRopaNoTieneGenero or #ClothesHaveNoGender movement, which challenges gender stereotypes and fights against bullies.

Moreover, Spain's Angela Ponce made history at the Miss Universe 2018 as its very first transgender contestant.
