Taking up additional courses can put a dent on one's pocket, not to mention, a challenge for those with a full-time job.

But you’re looking for ways to upskill and/or build your resume, whether you’re employed or still attending school, free online courses will be your resort, and prestigious schools like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offer just that.

MIT is offering over a hundred free online courses, most of which can be accessed at your own pace.

Known for its excellent reputation and contribution to science, innovation, and technology, MIT is one of the most sought-after schools by STEM scholars.

MITx courses you can browse on its website are mostly about science, like General Chemistry, an exploration of molecular biology, and cell therapy.

On the technology side, you can choose courses on sustainable energy, supply chain technology, and systems, and explore biology via BioGraph by learning how computer models can “bring biology to life.”

Fancy some knowledge about engineering? There are a number of courses about supply chain, management in the discipline, including strategy and leadership, and using the discipline in building a space shuttle, among others.

There are also courses about history and culture, like Visualizing Imperialism & the Philippines, 1898-1913; Visualizing Japan (1850s-1930s): Westernization, Protest, Modernity; Chinese Language in Culture; and exploring Balinese music; among others.

If you aim to be an entrepreneur someday, you can opt for courses like Startup Success: How to Launch a Technology Company in 6 Steps, Cultivating Entrepreneurship & Antifragility to Thrive in a Fast-Paced World, or delving further into Game Design.

The duration of the courses also varies. There are courses offered good for seven weeks, where you are required to spend eight to 10 hours per week, or four weeks with a required time of two to three hours per week.

The programs are mostly free, but you can choose to upgrade with a small fee for a verified certificate. Learn more about the free courses here.
