Ateneo, UP top PH schools in 2025 THE Asia University Rankings
The results are out for Times Higher Education's (THE) Asia university rankings this 2025, with both Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines taking the title as the top school in the Philippines.
According to their latest ranking released on April 23, a total of six schools were recognized in the list, but Ateneo and UP were the only institutions to make it to the 501-600 bracket.
They were followed by De La Salle University, Mapua University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, and the University of Santo Tomas at the 601+ bracket.
The universities were assessed based on five pillars, namely, research quality, industry, international outlook, research environment, and teaching.
There were 15 other higher education institutions in the list that were given the "reporter" status, which meant that they submitted data but didn't meet the specific eligibility requirements for inclusion in the main rankings.
This year's results serve as the third consecutive year that Ateneo appeared in the annual ranking of Asian higher education institutions released by the United Kingdom-based group. However, their new rank is lower than their placement in 2024, when the University was in the 401-500 bracket.
UP, meanwhile, retained its same ranking from last year.
A total of 853 universities from 35 countries and territories were assessed by THE for the list.
China led the overall rankings, with the first and second placements going to Tsinghua University and Peking University.
Other institutions in the top 10 are the National University of Singapore, National University of Singapore, The University of Tokyo, The University of Tokyo, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
THE is a British-based magazine reporting on news and issues in global higher education.
