Classes in schools, gov't work suspended in Metro Manila, CALABARZON for Sept. 3
Malacañang has suspended classes in public and private schools and work in government offices in Metro Manila and CALABARZON on September 3 due to inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm Enteng.
The announcement, Memorandum Circular No. 63 from the Office of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, said that the suspension was to ensure the safety of the general public.
He added that agencies that involve basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and other vital services will continue operations.
Meanwhile, work and classes in private companies and offices are left to the discretion of their respective heads.
Social media users called out the Presidential Communications Office for its initial post of the announcement which only stated classes in public schools were suspended.
"Gulo po ng statement. Paki-clear po,' one user said.
"Kelangan nyo po yata i update itong post nyo. 'Classes at all levels' ang nasa memo, kaya this should include also private schools," added another.
A little over an hour after it first shared the announcement, PCO edited their post to include the suspension of private school classes.
Enteng is the Philippines' fifth tropical cyclone for 2024. It developed from a low-pressure area off Samar Island on Sept. 1 and has been moving northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Moderate to heavy rains are possible over Metro Manila and CALABARZON until Sept. 4.
