TRENDING: Restaurant staff surprised by co-workers with cemetery-themed birthday party
From the name itself, birthdays are meant to celebrate the day when you were welcomed into the world, and since it's only a once-in-a-year occasion, most people want to make it special by getting creative and throwing fun surprises for the celebrant.
John Michael Domingo, a staff member of a restaurant in Antique, received a unique surprise for his 25th birthday when his co-workers threw him a cemetery-themed party.
The setting was complete with a "Rest In Peace" tarpaulin with his face edited on a Heaven background, a table setup that resembles an open-casket funeral, and even a cake that has his face "deceased" face on it.
In a video captured by his co-worker Peter Magsipoc, which nearly has a million views, Domingo could be seen with an astounded look on his face as soon as he saw his birthday surprise before bursting into laughter at the irony and hilarity of it all.
The owner of Domingo's workplace, Papa Don's Restaurant, spoke briefly with PhilSTAR L!fe and shared that it's in their practice to surprise their staff members every time their birthday comes around. "Every time na may magbi-birthday kami na staff, iba-iba po ang surprise setup, depende po sa personality ng staff ko."
Magsipoc, meanwhile, told news outlets how Domingo's cemetery-themed celebration came to be, explaining that all of his co-workers joined in to organize the party that turned out to be an unforgettable one.
"Itong birthday ni Michael, pinaghandaan namin. Mahilig siya magsuot ng puti, kaya napag-isipan ko ang ganyang konsepto. Tawang tawa kami. Hindi namin akalain na magte-trending," he said.
He also revealed how they also held a surprise party for another staff member in the past with a similar premise, "Isang staff nga namin, hiling niya na tahimik ang birthday nya. Kaya ayon, doon namin ni-celebrate sa sementeryo. Sayang nga hindi namin na videohan."
