18-year-old Indian sets Guinness World Record for hairiest face
A young man from India set a Guinness World Record for having the hairiest face.
Lalit Patidar, 18, has 201.72 hairs per square centimeter. That means over 95% of his face is covered with hair.
According to the Guinness World Records website, Patidar has an incredibly rare condition called hypertrichosis, or the werewolf syndrome, which causes an abnormal amount of hair growth.
Patidar is one of only around 50 documented cases reported worldwide since the Middle Ages.
His condition, however, has caused strangers to stare at him and make nasty comments.
Other kids even got scared of seeing him on the first day of school.
“But when they started knowing me and talking to me they understood I was not so different from them," Patidar is quoted as saying. "And it was just on the outside that I looked different, but I’m not different inside.”
With that, Lalit has fully embraced who he is and vlogs about his life on YouTube.
As his popularity grew, he guested on the Italian television show Lo Show dei Record. There, the hair on his face was measured to determine if he'd break the record.
A local trichologist assessed Patidar by shaving tiny portions of his face to take accurate measurements of his hairs per square centimeter, Guinness World Record said.
“I am speechless. I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to get this recognition," Patidar said after getting the recognition.
Still, he has critics getting in his hair, with some of them even asking him to remove his facial hair.
“I tell them that I like how I am," Patidar said, "and I don’t want to change my look."
