'Britain's Got Talent' finalist Matty Juniosa joins West End cast of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
Matty Juniosa, the Filipino singer and theater actor who recently breezed into the Britain's Got Talent finals, is expanding his theater credits in an even bigger way.
On April 30, BBA Management, who manages Juniosa's career, announced the powerhouse performer would be joining the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar in its upcoming West End production. The musical's official Instagram page also made the announcement.
"We are so excited to announce that our incredible Matty J will be joining the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar taking on the role of Annas!" the talent agency wrote. "We are so proud of Matty J and can't wait to see him shine on stage."
Juniosa will be playing Jewish high priest Annas, one of the antagonists in the story.
This latest production of Jesus Christ Superstar will run from June 20 to Sept. 5, 2026 at the London Palladium, one of the most iconic venues on West End.
The award-winning rock opera has been revived by various theater companies since it premiered on Broadway in 1971, with timeless lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Juniosa has experienced an upward trajectory in his career since he burst onto the audition stage of Britain's Got Talent in its 19th season. He performed Prince's Purple Rain, which earned him a golden buzzer from judge Simon Cowell. The buzzer sent Juniosa straight to the live shows.
On April 26, in the reality show's semi-final round, Juniosa got another golden buzzer, this time from judge Amanda Holden, for his rendition of Aerosmith's Dream On. With the buzzer, Juniosa is now slated for the show's finals.
Juniosa moved to Glasgow a few years ago to pursue further studies in musical theater at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. While a student, he supported himself as a part-time waiter. He also performed in several musical theater productions, including Hunchback of Notre Dame, Kinky Boots, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and NeZha.
Jesus Christ Superstar is also headed to Manila from May 2 to 24.
