LOOK: Arjo Atayde's family does 'pamamanhikan' at Maine Mendoza's home
Proud mom Sylvia Sanchez revealed that son Arjo Atayde has formally asked for Maine Mendoza's family's blessings ahead of their wedding this year.
The veteran actress expressed her excitement as she shared clips from the "pamamanhikan" which took place last June 25.
Pamamanhikan is a Filipino tradition in which the groom, who's accompanied by his parents (and family members), formally asks the permission of his bride's parents to marry her.
On her Instagram, Sylvia uploaded clips on their way to Maine's house via a private plane. “Off to a very important destination,” she wrote tagging the couple.
The second video showed the Atayde family's van entering a road to Maine's house. “The Very Important destination (heart emoji),” she captioned.
In a final post, Sylvia share pictures from the event, which included the whole clan from both sides.
"The Ataydes & Mendozas will soon merge as one family," Sylvia wrote with prayer and red heart emojis.
"Excited," she added, with dancing man and woman emojis. She also used the hashtags #family, #happiness, #thankuLORD.
Arjo's sister, Ria, on the other hand, shared the photo on her Instagram story, saying that the whole Atayde family was in full force. "But I mean, would it be a proper introduction if we weren't the entire Barangay Atayde? A first for our little barangay," she wrote.
Users showed their support in the comments with heart emojis, while others commended the very act of pamamanhikan itself.
"Beautiful families…”pamalaye” or “pamanhikan” still there. Tradition lives on. A good start for both families. Good Luck & God bless," one user said.
"Magandang ehemplo[.] God bless you Arjo and Maine," another user said.
Maine and Arjo got engaged in July 2022. The couple started dating in December 2018, but only went public with their relationship in January 2019.
