More women than men in Asia prioritize exploring new destinations, group adventures, and cultural immersion, a survey by online travel agency Agoda found.

Agoda, citing research company Skift from 2024, noted how female travelers have become a "powerful" presence in the travel industry as they make 82% of decisions.

Its latest report found that 60% of women in Asia prefer going to lesser-known and culturally immersive destinations compared to 53% of men. Women in India and Indonesia lead in this trend, with 80% and 69%, respectively, eager to visit new places.

Agoda noted that women are "embracing the thrill of the unknown" as they opt for adventurous experiences.

Additionally, Asian women like to go on group travels more than men. Some 40% of women would choose going on a trip with their family, compared to 28% of men. In Indonesia, 68% of women prefer going on family trips.

But it isn't just family that women like to go on vacations with. A third of Japanese women (29%) and a quarter of Indian women (25%) like traveling with friends.

Agoda's study found that more men (24%) still go on more solo trips than women (15%). However, in places like Hong Kong and Thailand, more females are open to traveling solo. Skift's study found that solo travel has become more popular among older travelers aged 65 and above.

As for the length of travel, most Asian travelers—regardless of gender—prefer a five to 10-day trip. This is particularly more evident among women from India and Hong Kong.
