Soccer player Quévin Castro passes away at 25 after collapsing during game
Portuguese footballer Quévin Castro has passed away at the age of 25 after he suddenly collapsed while in the middle of a match in his home country.
The tragic news was announced by the Lisbon Football Association, writing, "The Lisbon Football Association deeply mourns the death of Quevin Castro, a player for Real SC SAD, who passed away this morning during a friendly match between Real SC SAD team and Estrela da Amadora.
"We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and Real SC SAD during this tragic moment for Portuguese football," they added.
Castro's team, Real Sport Clube, meanwhile highlighted how he was "far more than a player," and that he "was a member of our family, leaving a mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him, both on and off the pitch."
"At this time of grief, Real Sport Clube – Futebol, SAD extends its most sincere condolences to the family and all friends of Quevin Castro, expressing its full solidarity and unconditional support. May the memory of Quevin Castro live on in our hearts," they said.
His former club, West Bromwich Albion in England, also mourned his death, detailing that Castro had joined their club in 2021 and made his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal.
He later made his maiden league outing for the club in February 2022 before departing The Hawthorns in the summer of 2023.
Afterwards, Castro spent time at York City, King’s Lynn, Chippenham, Cambridge City and Eastbourne, before returning to Portugal.
His cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
