Edvic Yap resgins from House amid flood control scandal
ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Edvic Yap has resigned from his position.
Yap—who was previously linked to a flood control corruption scandal alongside his brother, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap—has resigned. His letter was officially accepted by the House Secretary General and was announced during the plenary session on Wednesday.
Deputy Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Anna Victoria Veloso-Tuazon requested to remove him from the House of Representatives' rolls.
The next nominee on the filed COMELEC list is expected to take his seat.
Citing data from the Anti-Money Laundering Council, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla in December alleged that Yap received around P70 million in payouts from contractors Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya and Cezarah "Sarah" Discaya.
“Magkapatid ‘yan, Eric and Edvic Yap… so nakita namin may pattern talaga na meron talaga silang kinalaman sa mga kontrata kasi ‘yung transmittal ng pera, galing sa Discaya,” Remulla said.
That same month, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed that the personal accounts of the Yap brothers were included in a freeze order targeting the assets of Silverwolves Construction Corp.—a company linked to an unfinished flood control project in La Union—and Sky Yard Aviation Corp.
"Kailangan natin ang mga freeze order na ito para hindi maibenta ang mga ari-arian at para maibalik natin sa ating mga kabababayan ang bawat pisong pinaghihinalaang ninakaw," said Marcos.
