Mao Aplasca claims CCTV videos were 'spliced' to support the narrative
Suspended acting Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca alleged that the CCTV footage released by Malacañang was “spliced to support their own narrative.”
During an ambush interview on Wednesday, Alpasca told the members of the media that they are "preparing the complete videos" from the May 13 shooting at the Senate. He claimed that the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police downplayed the situation, making it appear the Senate wasn't under attack by NBI agents reportedly trying to serve an ICC arrest warrant against Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa.
"What they did, they spliced the videos and they just selected the videos that will support their narrative," he alleged. "I think it's not correct."
When asked what narrative was he referring to, Aplasca said "Yung sabi nila walang attack. We will show you. Bigyan niyo kami ng konting panahon."
He also said that “it is not true that we are withholding evidences,” adding that they have surrendered the surveillance footage and firearms to the probers.
This was after the Department of the Interior and Local Government said that there was "no attack" on the Senate following the shooting that took place in the legislative building.
"All evidence points that there was no attack on the Senate," DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla said during a May 19 joint press briefing with the Philippine National Police and Department of Justice.
Remulla and PNP Chief Gen. Melencio Nartatez also presented CCTV footage showing the NBI agent withdrawing after warning shots were fired from inside the Senate.
"Because he was being fired upon, he discharged a cover fire," the DILG said, noting that the muzzle of the NBI agent was not pointed at the Senate. "The cover fire was because he was under the impression that he was under attack."
Last Friday, Aplasca, who admitted that the OSAA was the first to fire "warning shots," was placed under a six-month unpaid preventive suspension. (with reports from Marc Jayson Cayabyab)
