Metro Manila subway to reduce Valenzuela–BGC travel to 29 minutes—Marcos
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said that the two additional stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project will reduce the travel time from Valenzuela to Bonifacio Global City to 29 minutes.
Marcos made the remark during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kalayaan Avenue and Bonifacio Global City stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project on Friday, Feb. 13.
“For decades, traffic in Metro Manila has been more than an inconvenience. It has been a constant consideration affecting our daily decisions. It influences where we work, where we study, and how we plan our lives,” he said.
The new segment will link Shaw Boulevard Station in Pasig City to Lawton Avenue Station in Taguig City, with the BGC stations expected to accommodate over 200,000 passengers each day in their first year of operation.
He underscored that the travel time between Valenzuela City and Bonifacio Global City will be reduced from one and a half hours to just 29 minutes once the full 33-km stretch of the Metro Manila subway is operational.
“This means workers arriving on time, students getting home sooner, and citizens reclaiming hours previously lost to traffic,” Marcos said.
Other than Valenzuela-BGC, the subway will also improve travel time from Quezon City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, which is expected to be shortened from over an hour to 35 minutes.
The subway is set to provide smooth transfers with both existing and upcoming railway lines, such as LRT-1, MRT-3, MRT-7, LRT-2, MRT-4, and the North-South Commuter Railway, which is projected to provide easier access to Metro Manila from neighboring provinces.
“This is the scale of transformation that we are building. And this brings us closer to a fully connected subway that will redefine mobility in our nation's capital. It also brings us closer towards restoring dignity to daily travel and reaffirming our confidence in what we can achieve as a nation,” he said.
The MMSP will have 17 stations from Valenzuela to Parañaque, ending at Bicutan in Taguig, with a connection to NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay.
The project is run by the DOTr and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency through a loan agreement. It will reportedly have disaster-resilient features at cutting-edge facilities.
It is slated to be finished by 2029.
