LOOK: Metro Manila subway project's progress before being finished by 2029
The Department of Transportation showed the progress of the Metro Manila subway project since its construction kicked off last January.
In a Facebook post on July 10, the DOTr shared photos of the ongoing 33-kilometer project, which will connect Valenzuela to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay.
The subway, which is set to have 17 stations, is said to lessen travel time between the two places to about 41 minutes, from an hour and a half.
It can service up to 519,000 passengers daily.
The subway will be connected to the Light Rail Transit 1 and 2, Metro Rail Transit 3 and 7, and the Philippine National Railways, the DOTr said. Eventually, it will also be connected to the future MRT-4 and North-South Commuter Railway Project.
The subway, partly funded by Japan, will reportedly have disaster-resilient features at cutting-edge facilities.
According to reporter Jacque Manabat, the project was originally estimated to cost ₱350 billion but was raised to ₱488 billion in 2021 due to four additional stations.
It was meant to be partially operational in December 2021, but was scrapped due to the pandemic situation.
The project is expected to be finished by 2029.
