Applying for a Postal ID? No need for a valid ID, says PHLPost
The Philippine Postal Corporation clarified that Filipinos are not required to present an existing valid government-issued ID to obtain a Postal ID.
In a media release sent to PhilSTAR L!fe, PHLPost said that applicants would only need to provide the following documents during the application process:
- birth certificate;
- barangay certificate or other acceptable proof of address like a recent electricity, water, internet, or other utility bill showing your name and current address; and
- duly accomplished Postal ID application form.
"These have long been the standard requirements for first-time applicants," PHLPost noted.
Postmaster General and CEO Maximo C. Sta. Maria III said that the Postal ID "has always been intended to make it easier for Filipinos to establish their identity, especially those applying for their first government-issued ID."
The Postal ID is a practical option for first-time applicants, students, job hunters, seniors, solo parents, PWDs, and those who are living in underserved areas since it's being accepted as proof of identity in both public and private transactions—from opening a bank account and getting a passport to claiming parcels, sending and receiving mail, and handling legal and financial matters.
