Man dies after being ejected and trapped by tractor
A 76-year-old man from South Carolina lost his life after getting trapped by his own tractor-trailer.
According to a report by PEOPLE, Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said the man—identified as Gary Moss—was discovered "entangled in" his tractor-trailer in their home's backyard earlier this week.
"Moss was mowing grass on his property with his tractor when he drove down an embankment and was ejected," Fowler stated in a release, adding that the tragic incident took place on Monday, Oct. 16.
Authorities suspected he was towing a Bush Hog, a landscaping tool that can be fastened to a farm tractor to clear overgrown grass, when it happened.
"The tractor continued toward Moss, trapping him between it and the Bush Hog attachment," said Fowler.
"Moss' wife found her husband entangled in the Ford 1620 tractor and called 9-1-1 for help," he concluded.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of Moss' death.
Citing NBC affiliate WJAC-TV and The Tribune-Democrat, PEOPLE also reported that a 33-year-old woman named Brandy Horner died in August while watching a tractor pull during a fair in Pennsylvania.
She was struck in the neck by a piece of an exhaust wheel that "became dislodged and ejected" from the machine's metal covering. While she was given immediate assistance and was rushed to a nearby hospital, Horner passed away less than an hour after the incident.
