Two UP campuses among world’s top universities in 2025
The University of the Philippines Manila and Diliman campuses were named among the top universities in the world in 2025.
In the latest rankings In the latest rankings released by the Center for World University Rankings, UP Manila, renowned as the country's premier health sciences institution, has distinguished itself as the top Philippine school on the list. Achieving an overall score of 67.4, UP Manila secured the 1,677th position globally, placing it within the top 7.9% of the 21,462 universities evaluated worldwide. Its strengths were further highlighted by its 1,047th rank in employability and 1,607th in research.
The university, located in Ermita, surpassed other world universities, including the University of Tulsa in the USA, Colombia’s Antonio Nariño University, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and Cleveland State University, among others.
Meanwhile, UP Diliman is among the top 8.4% globally in the recent university rankings. Notably, its research efforts earned a rank of 1,711, contributing to an overall score of 67.0.
“This recognition is an inspiration for the UP Manila community to continue fulfilling our mandate to teach, create new knowledge, and serve the nation,” Chancellor Michael Tee said in the statement.
Before this, UP Manila made it to the Top 500 Best Global Universities in the 2024–2025 U.S. News & World Report, making it the only Philippine school to be included in the list.
CWUR has been publishing the global university ranking since 2012. It assesses the "quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance without relying on surveys and university data submissions."
The universities are ranked based on education (25%), employability (25%), quality of faculty (10%), and research (40%), including research output, high-quality publications, influence, and citations.
