Speed limit at NAIAx, parts of Skyway 3 increased to 80 kph
The speed limit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) and straight sections of Skyway Stage 3 will be increased to 80 kilometers per hour this January.
The adjustments will take effect on Jan. 15 at NAIAx and Jan. 20 at Skyway Stage 3.
SMC Infrastructure made the adjustments to make travel on the expressways "faster and more efficient for everyone," according to the company's chairman and CEO Ramon Ang.
"We have carefully studied this to make sure that it benefits motorists while prioritizing safety," he said.
Ang added that SMC is also reconfiguring exit plazas at NAIAx to lessen congestion.
Meanwhile, a 60 kph speed limit will still be enforced on curved sections of the two expressways to avoid accidents caused by miscalculations or oversteering. Those caught violating the speed limit will still be issued citations by traffic patrollers.
"We appeal to our motorists to observe speed limits at our expressway facilities for the safety of all," Ang said.
Skyway Stage 3 is an 18-km expressway connecting Balintawak, Quezon City, and NLEX to the Skyway system in Buendia, Makati. Meanwhile, NAIAx is a 12.65-km elevated highway linking the Skyway to NAIA.
Previously in December 2024, SMC opened a new northbound exit in Skyway Stage 3 in Quezon City to alleviate traffic congestion in the Quezon Ave. northbound exit.
