NCSC says digital senior citizen ID valid proof of identity

The National Commission of Senior Citizens reminded public and private entities that the digital National Senior Citizens ID provides valid, government-recognized proof of identity.

In a press release, NCSC chairperson and CEO Atty. Ma. Merceditas N. Gutierrez sought to validate the legitimacy of seniors' digital ID, which is accessible through the eGovPH app

"We call on all institutions and establishments to accept the digital NSCID in accordance with the law, similar to other government IDs available through the eGovPH App," she said.

With the digital NSCID, senior citizens gain the following benefits:

  • A 20% discount and VAT exemption on medicines, food, transportation, as well as other covered goods and services
  • Access to government services, assistance programs, senior citizen benefits, and priority accommodations in public and private establishments
  • Ease in banking and financial transactions that require identity verification. With the digital NSCID, seniors can open bank accounts, loan applications, and claim financial benefits.
  • Present at establishments as an alternative to the physical senior citizen ID

In its Facebook post, the NCSC was quick to reassure the public that the digital ID will not replace the primary senior citizen ID issued by the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs.

"Hindi papalitan ng digital ID ang mga primary IDs. Parehong tanggap at valid ang physical OSCA ID, digital Senior Citizen ID, at lahat ng iba pang valid IDs. Maaaring gamitin ang alinman depende sa inyong sitwasyon o kaginhawaan," a representative of the NCSC replied to a comment.
